Support Act – Tina Jordan Rees with Gráinne Brady & Marianna Fraser
The Final Fling committee are extremely proud to introduce three talented young musicians ….
Gráinne Brady and Tina Jordan Rees are a new fiddle and piano duo from Cavan and Clitheroe who are currently based in Glasgow.
Gráinne, from Co. Cavan in Ireland, moved to Glasgow to study a Masters in Maths and to pursue her love for music. Tina, from Clitheroe in Lancashire, graduated in 2011 from the RSAMD with a BA (Hons) in Scottish Music. She was a finalist in the 2011 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year award and has just been nominated in the “Up and Coming Artist of the Year” category in the 2013 Scots Trad Music Awards.
The duo first met in a session at the Ben Nevis Bar in Glasgow 2011. Both have a love for tunes and so set up a duo in Autumn 2012. Earlier in 2013 the pair recorded an EP comprised solely of their own compositions.
For the Final Fling they will be joined by another accomplished musician & vocalist Marianne Fraser.
Review from gig @ Folklub, 12th Nov 2013
“What’s particularly striking about Gráinne & Tina’s set …. is the variety of material which, it transpires, is made up entirely of the duo’s own compositions. There’s an obvious love and respect for the tradition – and a stronger Scottish accent than might be expected from two musicians whose backgrounds are steeped in the Irish vernacular – but there are also surprises from this new duo whose imaginative arrangements come together in a vivacious caprice of musical energy. ….. Gráinne Brady’s direct and unpretentious fiddle style is complemented by Tina Jordan Rees’ sparklingly percussive keyboard, accentuating the players’ individuality yet giving off a sisterly air of familiarity that makes for a delightful pairing.”
2013 MG ALBA SCOTS TRAD MUSIC AWARDS NOMINEE
Main Act – Roadhouse
These guys have many years of musical experience behind them and are guaranteed to have everyone on their feet! Does anyone have any requests?
An outstanding five-piece, professional and versatile live band, providing music and entertainment for any occasion. Those who attend the Final Fling are sure to experience an amazing night, so start practicing those dance moves now!
Glenn (guitar / backing vocals / harmonica)
Glen was destined to play guitar after hearing “Teenage Kicks” by The Undertones for the first time. Since then, he has spent many an hour mastering the art (of air guitar) in front of his bedroom mirror. Without the safety net of professional training Glen grew up playing in numerous bands and duos (electric and acoustic) since the age of twelve. Always looking for new experiences, he could on occasions be seen strumming in the back line of a Jazz Orchestra or busking in the streets of Glasgow for beer money. Now that he’s a big boy, he’s stopped all that and satisfies his creative urges playing with Roadhouse.
Glen’s talents don’t end with the guitar. As well as providing backing vocals in Roadhouse, he sings with the Ayrshire Infinity Choir (see them at the National Choir of the Year Competition) which is great fun, allowing him to indulge in his favourite pastimes of birds, booze, bikes ‘n’ bands (preferably all at the same time!). He’s sooooo Rock n Roll!
Mark has been bashing drums for over 30 years now, playing in a range of outfits from championship brass brands, garage bands and pit bands, to playing Holiday Park summer seasons, panto’s and cruise ships. The vastly experienced Mark has also played on numerous TV and radio shows and adverts (but not the Cadburys chocolate one, as the Ape ended up getting that gig). Mark’s flamboyant and energetic style provides the band with the momentum to carry off any performance.
Mark joined Roadhouse in July 2007 and has never looked back since.
With a classical background, Steve spent his formative years playing trumpet in numerous orchestras, show bands and ensembles. Not happy with sharing the limelight, and inspired by the immortal words of Mark Knopfler (Dire Straights) “They don’t give a damn about any trumpet playing band” Steve decided to step into the spotlight, turning to his second instrument ‘his voice’.
Since then he has worked with numerous bands throughout the UK and beyond. ‘I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with some of the top bands and musicians in the country and have gained vast experience in performing various styles, such as rock, pop and even Big Band etc. This has certainly equipped me well to carry out my current role with Roadhouse, as their versatility in styles and genres is second to none’.
Steve is the most recent addition to the Roadhouse line-up having joined in 2011. Since then, the band has gone from strength to strength rightly gaining the reputation of being one of the best bands in the country.
First picking up the bass back in 76 (really! he’s that old), Stuart perfected his craft gigging in any pub and club worth playing throughout the 80’s (told you he was that old). The 1990’s saw Stuart make the transition to show bands, playing private and corporate functions all over the country. Stuart joined Roadhouse in 2007
Alan (Keyboards / Backing Vocals)
Alan was a founder member of the band and has been driving things forward for the past 13-14 years. Referred to by other members as ‘the boss’ (well he likes to think he is!), Alan is constantly working away in the background dealing with bookings, web sites and all that other mundane stuff, whilst the rest of the band bask in the glory of performance.
A highly skilled musician in his own right, Alan’s prowess on the keyboards bring so much depth and variety to the band allowing them to take on songs that others band could only dream of performing.
“We are a band that’s been put together purely to make people dance” Steve
For the evening of the Killearn Hoolie- The Final Fling the 5 piece band will become a 7 piece, adding a live brass section. We cannot wait! Please note that tickets for this event always sell out , so please don’t delay order your tickets today.

Landscape Painting By Geoff Foord
Art has been a passion of mine for many years. Allied to that is my love of the Scottish outdoors, from decades of walking the hills and corries, ‘bagging’ the occasional Munro, visiting the spectacular coastline, or merely enjoying the scenery, flora and fauna that Scotland has to offer.

Framed limited edition Killearn papercut by local artist Christine J Thomson, ‘The Papercut Artist’.
Individually lasercut for the Final Fling grand auction, this 2014 papercut uses an ancient art technique to display a truly contemporary image of the beautiful village of Killearn. This version of the Killearn papercut marks the year of the Hoolie with a 2014 stamp and includes the new village hall.
Christine’s unique way of depicting our local landmarks by laser cutting card to create a 3 dimensional flat ‘doily’ effect image ’papercut’ paper makes her work highly sought after. She has undertaken a number of public projects over recent years. Her print (from the original papercut) of the new GSA Reid Building was gifted to all guest at the grand opening last month. She has also been granted a licence by Glasgow 2014 to produce a commemorative Glasgow 2014 papercut, on sale now, which will complement her work to commemorate the Battle of Bannockburn and the Life and Love ‘O Rabbie Burns.
Jenn West Local Piece of Glass Art- Dumgoyne from Craigallian Loch
Jenn took a course in architectural glass and stained glass leaded work in 2003 at the Glasgow School of Art. Since then she has continued to develop her style and interest in glass and now works predominantly with kiln formed fused glass. She has worked from Wasps glass studio in Glasgow and is now based locally at her own studio in Killearn.
Inspiration comes from nature, colour and light with a specific interest in the sea, sand and coast. “I love the effect light has through glass and the depth of colours and notion of movement that can be achieved when fused together.
Jenn sells her work in various galleries and gift shops across Scotland and welcomes commissions. Check Jenn West Glass on Facebook for latest work and events.”
A Day’s Deer Stalking on Carbeth Estate
A day’s deer stalking for one person on Carbeth Estate accompanied and instructed by the estate Deer Manager Iain Semple. If successful, the deer would be field “gralloched” then taken home to larder and hung for an appropriate time before butchering.
As well being Carbeth’s Deer Manager, Iain is lead manager of Stirling Deer Management Group and fishery manager at the University of Stirling’s Howietoun Fish Farm. He is a genuine wildlife enthusiast and one of the most respected wildlife managers in our local area.
Please note that finding an appropriate animal is part of the stalking experience and cannot be guaranteed. Importantly, the successful bidder will be required to participate in the appropriate pre-stalk safety, rifle handing and animal husbandry training.
Local Landscape By Athena McLellan
Athena has lived and worked in this area all of her life and is constantly inspired by the amazing scenery and wildlife around her. She loves bright colours and the aim of her paintings and other works of art are to make people smile. After Art College, she became a graphic designer and is now a gardener. All of her jobs have allowed her creativity to show but creating artwork remains her most enjoyable pastime. Athena doesn’t have a website as of yet (despite her children nagging) but she does have a Facebook page – Paintings By Athena – on which she showcases her work. She is happy to do commissions or to show off her work to you at home. Please contact her on her mobile 07735464489 or 01360440866. Alternatively, you can ‘like’ her Facebook page.
