LATEST UPDATE - Silent Auction Painting

Killearn Tulips by Geoff Foord

Killearn Tullips by Geoff Foord

This fantastic painting will be on display in the Church Hall during the Gala Day and silent bids will be accepted for the auction that will be drawn during the Final Fling. Good Luck!

Geoff Foord is once again delighted to be involved in the Killearn Hoolie. Flowers are one of his favourite subjects to paint. At The Hoolie 2010 his art raised £270 in the silent auction. Last month another of Geoff's works was auctioned by The Friends of Strathcarron Hospice at their Ladies Night in Drymen.

Although Killearn was his home for 23 years, Geoff recently retired and now lives in Bearsden. This allows Geoff to devote all his time and energy to art, grandchildren and a love of music. One of the groups he performs with 'Willow Moon' will be part of the evenings entertainment at The Hoolie on the Saturday night.

Geoff has exhibited widely and his paintings are in private collections not only at home here in Scotland but in many other countries. More of Geoffs artwork can be seen at www.geofffoord.com

Introducing the bands for The Final Fling...

Supporting act: Jill Jackson

Jill Jackson

Jill JacksonJill Jackson is a singer songwriter from Paisley who has been described in the Nashville press as the “Scottish Songbird”. As a solo artist her sound is far removed from the music she made as the front-woman of rock band Speedway, with whom she scored two top ten hits in 2004.

From rock chick to country girl Jill has been gigging and recording as a solo artist since 2005. Not only a talented performer, Jill is also known for her work as a songwriter and former Spice Girl Melanie C cut two of Jill’s songs for her fourth solo album in 2007.

After spending the latter part of 2008 on a “50 States in 50 Days” tour of the U.S., Jill returned to 'T In The Park' Festival in July 2009 - her first appearance as a solo artist. Her profile continued to grow throughout 2009 into 2010 with a television appearance on STV's The Hour in January to promote her 2010 Celtic Connections gig at Glasgow’s Classic Grand.

Jill continued gigging throughout 2010, including an appearance at the Wickerman Festival in July of that year. In December 2010 Jill supported Runrig on their UK Winter tour, closely followed by a tour with Glasgow band Glasvegas in January 2011. In both cases Jill was playing to brand new audiences and didn’t take long to win them over with her rich vocals, engaging lyrics and a rare ability to connect with audiences everywhere.

Jill’s work has also attracted the attention of the television and film industry, with her song ‘Just Not Myself’ being featured in the penultimate episode of BBC Three’s Lip Service in December 2010. Her current album is ‘Back to Zero’ released in 2011.

Main band: Skerryvore

Skerryvore

Skerryvore are a multi-award winning Scottish band creating a ‘nu-folk-rock’ fusion for the 21st Century. The band’s exciting live performances have seen them display their talents in over 20 countries worldwide and also awarded the STMA ‘Live Act of the Year’ for 2011.

Skerryvore are the most promising young band in Scotland today.

Mick MacNeil (Simple Minds)

Skerryvore formed in 2005 on the Isle of Tiree, the most westerly island of Scotland’s Inner Hebrides. From traditional roots the band have developed both in size and sound to create a unique fusion of their traditional music and songs with the urban sounds of rock and funk.

With their outstanding musicianship and the mesmirising voice of singer Alec Dalglish, Skerryvore have become an international sensation, performing worldwide in cities such as Chicago, Beijing, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Brussels, Milan, Prague, Dubai, as well as performances at premier festivals such as T in the Park.

The band’s highly anticipated 3rd album, 'Skerryvore' was released in July 2010, receiving spectacular reviews from respected media, and also awarded ‘Record of the Year’ at Scottish New Music Awards 2011. This has seen the band achieve album sales of over 30,000 whilst also being awarded album of the month on the BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Celtic Connections’ International Broadcast.

Judging by the evidence of this new album, Skerryvore are set for the big time.

The Living Tradition

2011 saw Skerryvore represent Scotland worldwide when they featured in the international VisitScotland promotional advert. This, accompanied by performances in France, Italy, USA, Canada, Spain, UAE, Belgium and Holland, has seen Skerryvore continue their incredible worldwide musical journey that continues into 2012 with further festival performances in Europe and the United States.

Six of the best musical ambassadors Scotland could have ever wished for… a living, breathing, 12-legged party waiting to happen.
