Why don’t you blow the dust off your trainers and get training for The Hoolie Fun Run  . . . ?

The Hoolie Fun Run kicks off the whole Killearn Hoolie week and
the event is designed for everyone from Killearn, and beyond, to
encourage participants of all abilities. For the walkers and joggers amongst us the 5K route is ideal but for the more experienced and competitive runners the 10K is more of a challenge! For the younger runners there is also a 2K event based around the park in the centre of the village.

The 10K and 5K runs will begin at the top of the village where entrants will be officially piped to the starting line. The route will take runners down the main street through Killearn and then past some of the most beautiful local scenery along the water track towards Dumgoyne returning to the centre of the village to finish in the park.

There will be a number of prizes for winners in all the usual categories (and maybe some unusual ones!) and a superb Killearn Hoolie T-shirt for all entrants.

Route Description

Starting from the top of the village, around the Black Bull and Buchanan Monument, both the 10K and 5K routes head down Main Street, towards the South end of Killearn, past the end of Branziert Road.  South of the village, the routes turn left off Main Street and up to High Lettre Farm to join the Pipe Track heading South towards Strathblane.  The 5K turning point (marked '5' on the map) is reached after a further 0.5km (at 2.2km).  The 10K route follows the Pipe Track South for another 2.5km reaching the first water station at around 4km (just above Glengoyne Distillery).  At 4.7km the 10K route turns to return along the Pipe Track passing the 5K turning point and reaching the second water station above High Lettre Farm at 7.7km (2.7km for the 5K route).  From here the combined 5K and 10K routes continue North across farm track and grassland East of Branziert Road into Ibert Wood joining Ibert Road to return downhill into the village.  The route finally turns right up Main Street and then left at The Square to finish downhill into Killearn Park.

Can you help out?

If you don't want to enter any of the runs but would still like to be involved, then why not think about helping us to organise the event on the day.  We're looking for helpers for lots of the jobs which need to be done to make The Hoolie Run a success.  So if you could help us with things like registration in the morning, marshalling at road junctions, running one of the water stations, directing runners onto the right paths (so they don't end up at the top of Dumgoyne by mistake) or helping us welcome all the runners home at the finish line, then please get in touch and let us know.

The Hoolie Run Team are
